AP Environmental Science Solar Sun Challenge!

This week, students harnessed the power of the sun to make s’mores!

AP Environmental Science students used common materials (cardboard boxes, aluminum foil, pie pans, plastic bags and construction paper) to design solar ovens. They’ve been studying energy and agriculture, so this lab was a perfect way to experience the intersection of these important ideas. They noted that the most successful designs also capitalized in the greenhouse effect to trap and retain radiant thermal energy from the sun. They made s'mores and were able to melt chocolate within 10 minutes of sitting in the chilly February sun.
